My Girl is Growing Up

From adoption day on May 12, 2023 to just this week, training, exercising, and playing with our irrepressible Australian Cattle Dog, Calamity Jane, a/k/a Cally, has been a much-loved 24/7 avocation. Although still energetic and needing a great deal of attention, exercise, stimulation, and fun, Miss Cally is finally giving me some “me time” and I have, for the past three days, been able to work on a story I began writing in August of 2022.

Even though I’m writing again, Cally, of course, will still get her due of attention. She will make sure of that. She has subtle ways of informing us that it’s playtime such as ramming one of her toys into us, throwing one at us, jumping on our laps, or grabbing our wrist in her mouth to get our butts off the couch. I wouldn’t have it any other way. I never want her to lose her zest for life.

I have big plans for her this year. We are coming along in agility, so we will be continuing that. She had her first taste at Fast CAT last year and she was spectacular. She knows a ton of tricks and knows how to put her toys away. I’ve been working with her in scent work and I think she does well but I’ll want to get us in a formal class. I plan to take rally classes with her and I’d like to see how she does in barn hunt. This will be a fun year for us and I hope to top everything off with finishing and publishing a new book.
