The older I get, the more precious time is to me. Since I am a relatively healthy old hag, I’m savoring my remaining time on earth and I want to spend my time doing things that I enjoy. I love working with my gal, Cally, our canine family member, I love writing, I love gardening, I love reading, I love watching movies and TV, I love comedy, and of course, there’s always housework. I can’t say I love housework, but I enjoy the results and feeling of accomplishment when I’m done. In other words, I have a life, perhaps a dull sounding one to some, but at my age, I know what I enjoy, and simple is sweet.
From the time BLOTUS (Biggest Liar Of The United States, a/k/a Trump) somehow managed to get in the White House again, my life has devolved into the state of distress I experienced during his first term. I am no longer enjoying my life with the exception of spending some time with Cally. I am not giving her as much time as I want, but playing with Cally is the only recreation I am allowing myself. I am now obsessively watching the news fearing what our newly installed dictatorship is doing to strip away the rights of Americans, and hoping against hope that the people who we’ve elected to uphold our Constitution and way of life will take a stand against this madness. At my age, 72, I never thought I would have to protest to save Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and all sorts of socially beneficial programs that were fought for and realized years ago. At 72, I didn’t think I would feel compelled to protest for civil rights, for women’s rights, a woman’s right to choose, rights for LBGTQ people to be recognized as human beings and to be given the same respect as anyone else, and for rights for immigrants to become citizens. Who would think we’d have to protest to force our government to protect and improve the environment. Who would have thought we would have to protest and fight to regain our reputation in the world as a benevolent and kind nation that helps the poor and starving in other countries. Who would think we would have to protest to have our country be respectful and honorable to our allies, to keep our promises, and not threaten and extort them. Who would think we would have to protest to tell our leaders we don’t want our country to cozy up to and support dictatorships. Who would ever have thought it would be necessary for citizens to rise up to keep our democracy that has lasted for 250 years and make it known that we must continue to strive for equality and freedom for everyone in the United States.
A fascist coup is happening in the United States. Everyone must wake up and take action. If we don’t, we will wake up one day, very soon I might add, and we will be living under a dictatorship with no say in our government. Our mantra, “Of the people, by the people, for the people,” will be no more. It will be a lie that the newly installed fascists will continue to allege, as they are actually doing now by saying, “This is what the American people voted for.” I’ve heard that lie every day as they try to defend their illegal, unethical, amoral behavior along with their “alternative facts” about the past, present, and future.
No one voted for this total dismantling of our government. No one voted for King BLOTUS and certainly not King Musk. The only people that voted for this coup headed by BLOTUS and Musk are multi-millionaires and corporations (thanks to Citizens United) who have bought politicians and jurists to increase their wealth and power on the backs and pocketbooks of ordinary citizens. They want to go back to a feudal society with the king and his oligarchs ruling over powerless slaves and plebeians made up of the rest of us.
