It is imperative that all relevant witnesses testify under oath publicly before Congress and documentary evidence be presented. So far, Republicans are shutting their eyes, plugging their ears with their fingers, and repeatedly saying, “I can’t hear you, I can’t hear you.” Soon, the impeachment trial will start and Republicans are pushing for a speech-making event with no witnesses and no evidence rather than a real trial. This will make it much easier for them to acquit Trump and to face their constituents at home. Should damning, credible testimony be presented along with documentary evidence, how will they explain to their constituents that they think Trump’s extortion of President Zelenskiy using taxpayer dollars allocated to Ukraine for an announcement of an investigation into Joe and Hunter Biden to skew the 2020 election was perfectly all right?
As John Dean said regarding Nixon, Trump’s horrible scheme is a cancer on the Presidency. The scheme concocted by Trump, however, is a cancer with tentacles and far more deadly to our democracy than Nixon’s. Trump is the main tumor and the tentacles have spread and infected the Vice President’s office, our State Department, Defense Department, Justice Department, the OMB, and infected many Republican congressmen and leaders. VP Pence, Pompeo, AG Barr, Bolton, Duffey, Hyde, Giuliani, Nunes, McCarthy, Lev Parnas, Igor Fruman, and any other individuals who have connections to facilitating the Ukraine scheme should own up to their role which they accepted at the behest of, and the benefit for, only one individual, namely, Donald J. Trump. All of them should be called to testify at the trial and provide corroborating documentary evidence.
I cannot understand why the entire Republican Party follows Trump so blindly, makes excuses and lies for him, and covers up his misdeeds. At this point, I feel that Democracy in the USA is in danger because the Republicans in Congress are abdicating their responsibility to be a check on President Trump from doing whatever he wants. They are allowing him to act as a dictator. Unless they come to their senses and wake up from whatever trance they seem to be in and put a stop to this wanna-be supreme leader, before we know it we will only have one branch of government, the Executive Branch, and a totalitarian government. We are almost there now and I want our three branch system of government back.
