WRITE TO YOUR SENATORS TO ALLOW WITNESSES AND ALL EVIDENCE

Living in Florida, I have been writing Senators Scott and Rubio expressing my thoughts about the impeachment trial.  Senator Scott has not been as responsive and open to listening as Senator Rubio, so I am considering Senator Scott a lost cause and have given up on him.  I still have hope that Senator Rubio might be a man of conscience and he might realize that this time is critical for the survival of our democracy.  I implore everyone to please write your Senators, call their offices and remind them why they are in office.  Remind them they are there to represent the American people to preserve our Democracy and be a check on the Executive Branch when it acts above the law only to the benefit of the President.  When they ran for office, they professed they had the strength of character to stand up for the truth and to defend our form of government.  Remind them.

Today, my letter to Senator Rubio reads as follows.  I hope it inspires you to write your own letter to remind your Senator of his/her obligation to America, to the Constitution, to the future of our country.

“Dear Senator Rubio,

I am one of your constituents and have been giving my undivided attention to all of the information leading up to the impeachment trial and I have watched the impeachment trial from beginning to end thus far.  I’ve watched interviews of representatives from both sides, tuned into Fox News to see what they are saying, etc.  I would say, my life has been consumed by politics and what is going on in our country.

I have been listening to the Sunday shows this morning.  Many indefensible reasons have been given as to why witnesses and evidence should not be presented in the impeachment trial.  By not demanding all the information and witnesses to come forward is putting a blindfold on, taping your mouth shut, and inserting noise-cancelling earplugs.  Can you not see how blocking the investigation into the actions of the executive branch is destructive to our government?

Save your reputation as someone who wants our Constitution to mean something and survive, who wants our country to survive, our system of checks and balances between the three co-equal branches of government to survive, and insist on exposing the whole truth.  As a Senator you have constituents who, like me, can see the truth.  There are Republicans who can see the truth.  Listen to George Conway and Rick Wilson, for example, who see the truth and are speaking out.  They are heroic men with moral integrity.  Join them and show you have some self-respect, that you are not going to bow down before President Trump, kiss his feet, and call him Dear and Most Wonderful Leader who is The Chosen One.  Stand up for and speak the truth.  You will truly gain more supporters than you will lose.  Even I, as a long-time Democrat, would support and defend you if you would only tell the truth to the American people–and speak it loudly.

I dare say that there are some who have been on the side of President Trump that cannot help but question what his administration is telling them.  You know they want and they need to hear witnesses.  They need to see the documents that have been withheld by President Trump.  Hiding witnesses and documents certainly is evidence of guilt.  Those Trumpers that have questions will be, or should be, grateful for someone telling them the truth.   They will be grateful for Senators trying to preserve our Democracy.  If we do not allow even an investigation into the Executive Branch by allowing them to simply refuse to provide information to Congress we have lost our system of government based on checks and balances.  The American people have lost their power.  A dictatorship has replaced democracy in America.

We have elected leaders, such as you, to be honest, truthful and to have the strength of character to sincerely and demonstrably act for the benefit of the people, to preserve our democracy.  This is your time, Senator Rubio, to be strong and show that you are worthy of your office.  This is a definitive moment for you.

Sincerely,

Arleen Anderson”
