CUTTING THE CORD

Remember when the cost of watching TV involved purchasing your television set and tuning in?  That was when television advertisers paid the networks to place ads periodically during shows that viewers were forced to either endure and watch, or get up and get a snack, or go do something constructive until the show came back on.  Those of us of a certain age can remember that time.  Then came cable TV which claimed the ads would be eliminated and people would pay a nominal fee of under $10.00 per month for the privilege of watching television with phenomenal programming.  I recall when cable companies first pushed their con, the cost was around $8.00 per month, which, of course didn’t last long.  As we all know, the ads were not eliminated unless one purchased premium channels.  Movie channels showed the same movies over and over again, there were only a select number of channels one would, or could, watch, and the bills rose constantly.  Now that Phil’s and my personal bill has risen to an outrageous $208.00/month, Phil and I are cutting the cord.

Phil has done a lot of research about how to go about doing this.  We apparently need to purchase an antenna with an approximate cost of $80.00 and other things, but we should be up and running at a minimal cost eventually.

One thing he found which is completely free that doesn’t even require an antenna is Pluto TV.  I never heard of this before, but it is exactly like when I was a kid but with a much greater variety of programming.  Since I have been a news junkie for the past four years watching our country be torn apart by a corrupt administration, this morning I was still able to watch Face the Nation completely free, CBS Sunday Morning, and could have found other informative shows to watch if I had time.  They also have on demand movies, television series, and ton more.

Pluto TV can be accessed through your computer, phone, or I-pad.  It probably can be accessed on a TV that is more like a computer monitor.  I’m not tech savvy, so I can’t really give advice about that.  However, I know you can watch on a computer and I-pad because I did it this morning.  There is no subscription, no cost at all.  Ads are what pays Pluto TV from what I understand, which is as it should be.  It has always been a ripoff for cable television companies to receive money from advertisers as well as us, the stooge public, forced to pay them because somehow, through some corrupt politicians probably, laws were enacted to allow them to charge us.

If you’re looking at ways to cut the cord, try Pluto TV.
