Meredith Roderick, an American in 1992, and Maria Rodriguez-Flores, a Honduran in 2019, both leave their homes in search of better lives. Meredith, drowning in the depths of depression leaves her home to forget her sorrows and transform herself in another country. After struggling to survive in Honduras, Maria leaves with her family to emigrate to the United States. Maria experiences terror and misery on the way but relies on her faith and receives miraculous help in her search for a new home. Meredith is swept up into the mystique of Obeah in Jamaica, where her spirit awaits the opportunity to fulfill her promise to her parents to return home.
